MEDICAL ADMISSIBILITY
You must be medically admissible to Canada to qualify for entry. You may be required to undergo a medical examination if you have a medical condition, or if you wish to work in the restricted occupations of child care, primary or secondary school teaching, or health services.
If you have a medical condition:
If you manage a condition such as asthma or diabetes well with the medicines that you take you will not generally require a pre-departure medical examination.
If you have been hospitalised for a condition/illness or if you have been treated for a chronic, communicable or serious medical condition, then you may require a pre-departure medical examination. You must provide a detailed explanation of your condition/history on your application form.
If you are issued medical instructions you should take the medical examination immediately. Your place will be kept for you if the program closes during the processing of your application.
If you wish to work in the occupations of child care, primary or secondary school teaching, or health services:
You will be required to undergo a medical examination in order to remove the conditions on your work permit that would restrict this.
When submitting your application, be sure to include a note clearly indicating your intent to work in the above-mentioned fields (use a bright highlighter or other means to draw attention to your intended employment). Upon receipt of your application, you will be sent medical forms and instructions on how to have the medicals performed. We cannot approve your application until we receive notification that you are medically admissible.
You should allow for an additional delay of at least 6-8 weeks in the processing of your application when medicals are required.
A place in the WHP will be held while medicals are being processed
