Upon making an application to the WHP you will need to allow up to six (6) weeks for processing. If your application is successful, you will receive your Letter of Introduction within this time. The Letter of Introduction is valid for presentation at a Canadian Port of Entry for one year from its date of issuance. Please refer to the Successful Application section of the website for more information.

On presentation of your valid Letter of Introduction to a Port-of-Entry Immigration Officer at a Canadian Port-of-Entry, you will be issued with a Work Permit that will be valid for up to 12 months from the date you enter Canada. Please refer to the Arrival in Canada section of our website for further information.

When you apply for the WHP is dependent upon when you wish to enter Canada. Using the above information you should be able to determine when it would be best to apply to suit your individual requirements.
