Diane Marleau, Minister for International Cooperation and Minister Responsible for la Francophonie
Born and raised in Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario, Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for la
Francophonie, Diane Marleau has lived and worked in Sudbury for the last 33 years.
Madame Marleau attended the University of Ottawa and Laurentian University. She earned a B.A. in Economics from Laurentian University,
and worked in the fields of accounting and administration.
Madame Marleau first entered politics at the municipal level in 1980, and served two terms as a regional councillor from 1980 to 1985.
As Chairperson of the Finance Committee, she introduced a policy that was instrumental in eliminating the debt of the Regional
Municipality of Sudbury.
First elected as Member of Parliament for Sudbury in 1988, Madame Marleau has held a number of positions within the Liberal Caucus and
served as Vice-Chairperson of the National Liberal Party Standing Committee on Policy and Chair of the Ontario Liberal Caucus.
Prior to her appointment as Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for la Francophonie, Madame Marleau held
the Cabinet posts of Minister of Public Works and Government Services and also Minister of Health.
Madame Marleau and her husband Paul have three children, Brigitte, Donald and Stéphane.
