Description
The liberation monument in Franeker (municipality of Franekeradeel) is a maple in front of which an errant stone is placed. The stone is 1 metre high, 1 metre wide and 1 metre deep.

‘NA TIEN JAAR BEVRIJDING IS DEZE BOOM GEPLANT 1955’.
(‘This tree was planted ten years after the Liberation – 1955’). The maple symbolizes liberation.

Background
The liberation monument reminds the inhabitants of Franeker of the battle against the occupational forces and regained freedom and peace.

The tree was planted in 1955 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Liberation.

Memorial services
The memorial service at the Franeker war monument, which is maintained by the municipality, takes place on the 4th of May.
